As the owners of Corner Café and professional foodies, we know what it takes to make a restaurant comfortable, satisfying and relaxing with excellent dishes. The Corner Café offers homemade and made to order meals that appeal to so many. -Jim & Lisa Hill
Lisa Hill, Owner, has twenty five years experience as a dietitian specializing in diabetes. You can bet she will NEVER allow processed foods or trans fats on her menu! She works closely with Juan the head chef to ensure their dishes are balanced and intriguing. She’s available on weekends and evenings to offer her wine expertise along with great service.
Factoid: Lisa is a talented tennis junkie who plays on a highly ranked league and a loyal (and loud) Giants and NASCAR fan. She also has a distinct weakness for rescuing cats, including their tiny princess Eli and their very loud and demanding red head, Rusty. We’re not sure if Eli’s namesake would appreciate the “princess” description, but it suits the cat, anyway.
Jim Hill, Owner, has extensive experience in restaurant and food service businesses, beginning in his youth while working with his dad. He is the perfect match to Lisa with his hands on experience and his long time role consulting for various institutions. Jim can often be found both in the kitchen and running plates to customers.
Factoid: You might recognize Jim if you travel in the southeast region as he hops from plane to plane as a Food Service Consultant to Healthcare Facilities. He may also been seen at the wee hours of the morning walking a handsome older gentlemen (their beloved dog) named Murphy. Jim is one of the most energetic guys we know!
Our Head Chef, Juan Macias, came to us with 30 years of culinary experience as a kitchen manager and head chef. He has circled the globe twice, visiting 53 countries while working on a cruise line as sous chef early in his career. His enthusiasm for learning new cuisine inspired him to work at various restaurants while in port. With such unique travel and ethnic cuisine experience, as well as working in seven Florida restaurants throughout his career, he is amazing with his diverse and made to order plates.
Factoid: Juan is multi-talented as an ice carver and garnish chef, creating exquisite ice sculptures and centerpiece garnishes for events. When he’s not making his edible art or feeding our locals, he enjoys time with his wife and two boys.
Matt Webster, aka “Webster”, The Brewer, crafts his unique beer recipes in house and on his own custom designed 1.5 barrel system. He is a self-taught homebrewer of 15 years now living his dream as a professional. In 2008, his homebrewed Kolsch won bronze in the National HomeBrew Competition and his Dunkel won 5TH place in the Samuel Adams Long Shot Competition. One of his staples on tap, Gnarly Barley just won Gold in the 2009 Best Florida Beer Championship!
Factoid: When he has a break from brewing and manning the bar, he dreams of sneaking away to enjoy his two favorite hobbies – golfing and deep sea fishing with buddies. He’s also a great husband and a funny, loyal dad to two crazy Boston Terriers (the stars of Julio’s ‘Jefe’-Weizen & Lil’ Punkin Ale) and a cranky, weight-challenged cat.
The Cast of Characters, our staff, are a terrific example of humor, professionalism, diversity and experience. Our staff hails from many ethnicities and backgrounds…such as Jim, American Indian-German, Lisa, English-Irish-German, Webster is mostly Welsh (go figure with the beer passion, eh?) and French, Juan the German-Cuban, Panos the Greek, Josh the Canadian and Adam who hails from Mexico. This only taps into a few of our vivid personalities and backgrounds which always keep things lively and entertaining.
Come join us…you’ll fit right in.
